Tokyo is a fascinating city, but sometimes I miss my old stomping grounds in Kyoto. There is just so much inspiring beauty there. Take this garden at Koryu-ji temple in western Kyoto. I'd been on a bike ride near my house in Saiin and just happened upon it. If you're in Kyoto, I highly recommend renting a bike at Kyoto station and riding around. While I was visiting this temple I saw no more than half a dozen people while the rest of the tourist sites were jam packed that week. It's nice to have a quiet moment in a Japanese garden even if it means getting lost on your bike.
