Collage Wrapping DIY

Lately I've been really into my Japanese craft books. I never knew collage could be so much fun. This year I'm going to dispel my reputation in the family as the last minute gift wrapper and start early. Here's my first attempt at collage gift wrapping.

Even with this pretty washi tape alone, you could make gorgeous wrapping.
I love the how the back looks. Just use some plain brown wrapping paper so the doilies and tapes don't end up looking too fussy.

For the ribbon, I tore some scrap fabric and secured it in place with torn craft tissue paper and glue stick. I carved the bunny stamp myself, but you could use a store-bought stamp or stickers. If you happen to be in Japan you will have no trouble at all finding bunny stamps seeing as how 2011 is the year of the rabbit according to the Chinese zodiac.

Let's see what else will you need? Some doilies. I'm jealous of my American friends who can by these cheaply and easily at the grocery store. It took a little investigating for me to track them down in Japan. They're called lace paper here, which makes it sound so much more elegant. I think washi tape (or Japanese masking tape) is available on the internet and the ink you can find at craft stores.

So, let's hope I can keep up the momentum and keep everyone from waiting on Christmas morning while I search the house for tape.

I'll post some more holiday collage ideas this month.

The story about waiting on Christmas morning for you while we are all drinking coffee, and hearing you say, "Mom, do you have any tape?" will always crack me up. Love the package with the bunny stamp. You are inspiring me!
