Remnants of the Day

I'm really excited about my little pillow makeovers. Not only because it was really easy, but because I was able to use an odd strip of $1.50 fabric in the remnants pile at Calico Corners. This is the coolest fabric I've seen in a long time. It has the orange and blue I've been trying to decorate with and it's got lots of fun texture. The two pillows I covered came with the couch we bought at World Market, so I didn't have to spend a dime more.
I used a seam ripper to open up 3 sides of the old pillow case. I left the zipper seam shut. Then I cut the new fabric to the same size as 1 side of case. Next, I made a quarter inch fold at the top of the new fabric and sewed it right underneath the zipper. That way, when you fold over the new fabric, there will be an invisible seam.
So then I folded the case wrong side out and sewed up the seams (the new fabric should be in the middle of the old layers). When you flip it right side out, it looks pretty good.
The little pillows brighten up the pale blue side chairs and go pretty well with the curtains, too. If you break it down, I spent 75 cents per pillow. Woohoo. Now there's more money in the pot for the master bedroom headboard project.
