Confessions of a Distracted Housewife

Looks good enough to eat, right?

Warning: Hold on to your seats, folks! This is one exciting blog post.

Yesterday, I was on a roll with my housewife duties ... a combined two hours of cleaning and laundry, a quick trip to Home Goods where I bought 2 lamps for $60 and a lady bug Halloween costume for $12, then to the playground. To round out the day, I started baking. I had to figure out a new no-tears way to get the girls to leave the playground, so I said, "Hey, let's go home and bake some sugar cookies!" Worked like a charm.

Somehow, I managed to get the really simple recipe wrong and instead of a cup and a half of sugar, I used a half cup of sugar. If you've ever messed up a baking recipe, you know the results can be disastrous. Not only were the cookies unsweet, but the lack of sugar made them really dry and crumbly. The funny thing is that I did the exact same thing last year!

My husband  came home from work during my cookie photo shoot and was hungry enough to eat one anyway. I wasn't so surprised when he said they were good. He's always complaining that American cookies and cakes are way too sweet. The real test came when the kids got a hold of them. Sure enough, they gobbled them down, too. I know I'll start eating them, too, just because they're there, so instead of "wasting calories" (as my grandmother used to say) on dry cookies I'm going to use most of them to make a pie crust. As long as I get the pie filling right, it should taste pretty good. And I'll have another photo op when the pie is done!

p.s. Does that wire basket in the background look familiar? Click here if it's not ringing any bells. It pays to blog because when your birthday comes around, people know exactly what to get you!

Your photography is beautiful! Less sugar isn't the worse thing you can do with a recipe. Try 1 1/2 cups of baking powder instead of 1 1/2 tsps. No I don't know what I was thinking either. :D

Thank you Mariam. I'm laughing over your mishap with the baking powder. That's probably worse than messing up with the sugar. haha
