A Store I Could Live In

Unico, not to be confused with the ubiquitous fashion retailer Uniqlo, is a great resource for mid-century and Scandinavian-inspired furniture in Japan. I've been to their adorable shops in Kyoto, Osaka and the Daikanyama neighborhood of Tokyo too many times to count. Their ¥300 catalog is full of design inspiration. I'm loving that set with the white subway tile, dark grout and reclaimed wood floors. They even manage to make red carpet look chic.

I love wood work. Especially when it is made from Reclaimed Floorboards. One of the best eco-friendly wood to include in your home are reclaimed woods. It will often be more durable than what you can find from other sources. Most of the reclaimed wood flooring is considered to be old-growth wood. This was made from trees that were allowed to grow for hundreds of years in some cases. When a tree is allowed to grow this long, it becomes denser and harder. If you are interested in hardwood flooring, you want it to be made out of wood that is dense because it is less likely to scratch and dent. Reclaimed wood flooring is generally much harder than the regular wood flooring that you can buy.
